Meet Xanthe our Fit Specialist, Pattern Maker & Seamstress

Sadly Corine has taken a new position up with a growing fashion house.  We wish Corine a sad goodbye and wish her all the very best. We hope that perhaps she will be able to re-join us in the future as she was an assist to A Fitting Connection and our clients.

With every change brings about new possibilities and here at A Fitting Connection we embrace change as a chance to improve and offer our clients a service that they can’t find elsewhere.  And with that we would like to introduce the newest member of our team Xanthe. She has a cute little accent but don’t hold that against her, in fact we believe that it’s an assist; we have never met a New Zealander that is anything other than beautiful inside out and have a work ethic that one wished they could bottle. Without further ado let’s ask Xanthe a few questions so we can all get to know her better.

1.  Why do you love doing what you do?

Sewing is my passion, I have been doing it since my mother gave me her old Bernina machine when I was 11 years old!

 2. How long have you been in the fashion industry?

After studying for 6 years and working part time in fashion houses and retail, I have been in the industry for 5 years.

3. We know you have had a device career in the industry, can you shed a little light for our readers?

I have worked as a graphic designer, designer’s assistant, warehouse assistant and sample machinist. I have designed 2 seasons of a basics range for HSL. Which also included making the pattterns, coordinating & styling the photoshoot and designing the look-books, posters and website.

I have also always run my own dressing making business from home which including sewing my sister’s wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses. As well as working alongside a start up fashion label working on their patterns and sewing their samples.

4. What are some of the labels/brands you have worked for/with?

I worked for 3 years with the NZ labels Obi, Catalyst, HSL and Chocolat. I have also worked for Banana Blue in Australia.

5. What has been your most rewarding job?

Dressmaking from scratch: I just love to create a one-off design for someone and see it fitting beautifully and know that they love it. I also loved designing the range for HSL, seeing my designs come to life and being photographed and selling was an incredible feeling.

6. What excites you about the future in fashion?

I am very interested in ethic and sustainable fashion and I can’t wait to see more and more businesses being responsible in this way.

7. What would you like to see more of in the industry?

Ethical and sustainable fashion practices. More clothing made locally and naturally dyed fabrics. I would love to see fashion return to the boutique and away from fast, throw away fashion.

8. What are your favourite brands and why?

There is a brand in NZ called Moochi which is a little grungy, stylish and fresh. I really like Alpha60 from Melbourne too. They have simple classic designs which are timeless.

9. Moving away from the fashion industry, what makes your heart sing?

I love to spend time with my fiance and our friends playing board games (yes I’m a little bit of a geek) or watching a great movie.

Thank you so much for sharing your passion and a little insight to the person that you are Xanthe. It’s an honour to have you as a part of our team.  We are looking forward to what the future lays ahead for us here at A Fitting Connection.
